The Institute congratulates scientific advisor Alfio Quarteroni on the 2026 Gauss–Newton Medal

The highest award of the International Association for Computational Mechanics, presented in Munich on 20 July 2026.

Biospark Medical and AI Research Institute congratulates Professor Alfio Quarteroni, a scientific advisor to the Institute, on receiving the 2026 IACM Gauss–Newton Medal, also known as the IACM Congress Medal.

The medal is the highest honor given by the International Association for Computational Mechanics. It recognizes outstanding, sustained contributions to computational mechanics across a substantial part of a career. It is named Gauss–Newton for a reason the Institute takes personally: the synergy of mathematics, numerical analysis, and the mathematical modeling of physical events.

Professor Quarteroni received the medal on 20 July 2026 at the opening ceremony of the 17th World Congress on Computational Mechanics and the 10th ECCOMAS Congress, in Munich. He is Professor Emeritus at Politecnico di Milano, affiliated with EPFL, a member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, and founder of the MOX Laboratory at Politecnico di Milano (2002). In 2023 he was awarded the ICIAM Lagrange Prize for exceptional contribution to applied mathematics.

His life's work is the sentence the medal names: mathematics that can model a living system. That is why his counsel matters here. The Institute's work on continuous medical intelligence, including patient-specific computational models of physiology, sits on the kind of field science he has spent a career making rigorous.

We are proud to count him among the people who make this Institute run. Congratulations, Professor Quarteroni.
